eehšaliaanki: We Feed The People Food Bank
Last Saturday of the month, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
As a people, going back before contact with Europeans, the Miami always provided for our people. The members of the tribe who were too elderly, sick, or couldn’t provide for themselves would be provided for by all the other members of the tribe. Since 2006, MNI has continued this cultural practice of not just feeding the people of the tribe, but all people living in Peru, Indiana, and the surrounding Miami County. Since 2006, the Food Bank has won awards and grown to become the largest food pantry in the county, serving 80 to 100 families monthly. The food pantry welcomes many volunteers, including about 50 Miami and 25 non-Miami volunteers, annually.
If you would like to donate to the food pantry, you can drop off items at the tribal complex at 80 W 6th Street, Peru, IN 46970 from Tuesday to Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or by appointment. Thank you to our food bank partners for your generous contributions.
