Acknowledge MNI Lands
You are welcome to include the Miami in your land acknowledgments. A land acknowledgment is a statement that recognizes the Indigenous peoples who have been dispossessed from the homelands and territories upon which an institution was built and currently occupies and operates on. Land Acknowledgments can be adopted institutionally or offered at specific events, where they set the tone for the rest of the agenda.
Land acknowledgments should recognize the Miami in the present tense to emphasize that the Miami are still present and thriving on these lands. Examples of land acknowledgments in the region that acknowledge the Miami include ACLU’s Indiana land acknowledgment and Eiteljorg Museum.
