aya eeweemilaankiki! (Hello our relatives!),
When the akookaki – frogs – stop croaking around this time year they tell us that it is time for aalhsoohkaana – winter stories.
The Language and Cultural Committees will be sponsoring an evening of the telling of aalhsoohkaana for tribal members and their families at the tribal complex in Peru on Saturday, January 6, 2007 at 7pm. We will meet in the basement band room and please bring a dish or snack for the aalhsoohkaana and for everyone to share.
aalhsoohkaana were an important part of the lives of our ancestors, but these are not just entertaining stories about the past. aalhsoohkaana contain the knowledge passed down and added to by many generations of our ancestors that can help us understand and make decisions in the present for future generations of mihtohseeniaki – Miami people.
There was a great turn out last year and we hope that more tribal members and their families will come to hear and share in the telling of these important aalhsoohkaana. If you have any questions about this event, please contact Jackie Williams, Cultural Committee Chair, or Scott Shoemaker, Language Committee Chair.
