The Legend of the Corn Husk Doll
The Creator of Corn told the corn to make a doll from her husk, and go to the Indian villages and pow wows and tell the children happy stories that make them feel good. So the doll husk went around and told her stories. The children started telling her how beautiful she was, and as she made her rounds, she heard this more and more. Now when she'd pass a clear pool of water she would stop and look at her reflection. She was getting so obsessed with everyone telling of her great beauty that she was not making the children happy any longer.
One day, the corn creator sent for the husk doll. As she was making her way to his cabin, she passed a clear blue pool of water and again stopped to view her reflection. The Creator informed her that something bad was to happen if she did not start making the children happy again. The corn doll continued to tell her bad stories to the children, because all she could think about was her beauty. So again the creator sent for her, and again she passed the clear blue pool of water and admired her reflection. When she reached the creator's cabin, he said, " I told you if you didn't change something bad would happen to you. I want you to leave."
On her way down the path, she came to the pool of water and could not resist peeking at her reflection. When she looked down, the husk doll had no face.
The moral of this story is do not be conceited about yourself.
