(Hello!  We are glad you have come to visit us.)

Welcome to the Miami Nation of Indians of Indiana’s Website!  Our Mission is to protect, promote, record, and share the Miami of Indiana’s history, language, culture, and heritage. The purpose of this site is to share these and our on going struggle to regain our Federal Recognition, with all people . We are members of a Native American Tribe that to this day is still in Indiana, part of our original home lands. Our Federal Recognition was illegally taken from us in the late 1800s so for now we are a registered 501(c)3 not for profit until we regain our recognition. We hope you enjoy our site, learn more about our Tribe, and if you have questions or comments, please send them to us via the “Contact Us” link.

Tanakia!

we have been awarded a $25,000 grant but need your help matching those funds!

The Tribe has been given a $25,000 grant that requires matching and we need your help! The grant and the funds to match will be used to repair and replace mason work on our complex which is 85 years old and is on the National Registry of Historic Places! This grant will allow us to double your tax deductible gift towards this project! Please donate today!

We have made some great strides towards regaining our federal Recognition!

Ever since our federal recognition was illegally removed in 1898, we continue to fight to regain it! Recently we have made some positive strides towards that goal, but need your help! The application process requires considerable funds for attornies, social and historical studies, travel costs, and more! Won’t you please consider helping achieve this goal and help restore our rightful recognition from the federal government as a Native American tribe!?

Come visit the Chief Meshingomesia School House and cemetery Saturday Oct 14th and Sunday the 15th

Come visit the Chief Meshingomesia schoolhouse and (Indian) Cemetery on the original Meshingomesia reservation in Grant county near Jalpa Indiana. Come hear the story of this unique 1860s schoolhouse and how it was retruned to and restored by the Tribe! We will also have members of our Tribe and our drummers present to share songs, visit with, share our culture, and fellowship with! It is the same time the Mississinewa 1812 battle is commerated which is within 1 mile of the schoolhouse. This is the only time the schoolhouse is open to the public without an appointment. Hope to see you there!
